Towards more inclusive research methods: Combining master thesis research in Sociology with a documentary ‘Hi, how are you? A story about connection, loneliness, and survival as a refugee in a Belgian asylum centre’
During this workshop, filmmaker Toyah Van der Poten (Department of Sociology/CESSMIR) will show how research can translate in different forms. Combined with her master thesis research in Sociology, she produced a short documentary film (+- 15 min.) that shows a different/ additional side to the stories of the participants. The documentary gives new perspectives on the research and makes the story and outcome of the master thesis more accessible to a larger public. After the film there’s a short presentation on different research formats and working towards inclusion. There’s time for discussion on the role of the researcher, seeing and sharing research in different/ accessible ways and agency and inclusion for participants. The presentation is for everyone who wants to see a different side of research and to hear stories from research participants in another way.
