Opening lecture of the 2024-2025 Medieval Seminar Series Cycle

On Wednesday 25 September 2024 (start at 12.00), the opening lecture of the 2024-2025 Medieval Seminar Series cycle will be delivered by Dr. Walter Ysebaert (Free University Brussels). He will speak on the topic of 'Media presence of medieval researchers as societal impact? The case of Flanders'.

Dr. Walter Ysebaert is a medieval historian trained at VUB, ULB and Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes in Paris. He defended his PhD thesis in 2004 at the VUB. In his pre- and postdoctoral work, dr. Ysebaert focused respectively on medieval relation networks and on the medieval oral and written literacy as related to the socio-political transformations in the Northwestern Europe.

As of 2009 he moved on to science policy, both as a researcher (the history of Belgian science policy) and as a university policy advisor. He is currently co-promotor of ECOOM-VUB, for which he specializes in the study of - and advising on - research evaluation policies and strategies. Naturally, he developed an interest in societal impact as part of the task of research institutions, in the social sciences and humanities but also beyond. Medieval Studies is always top of mind when selecting fields as a case study!

Please note that this lecture will start at noon (12.00!) and will take place in lecture room 2.1. of Ghent University's Rozier building (entrance Rozier 44)
