Object and action representations: what overlap?
In line with embodied views of concepts, growing evidence indicates that processing of manipulable objects involves the reactivation of motor information. In this presentation, I will argue that our understanding of embodiment phenomena requires refinement. I will present recent findings supporting the idea that certain types of motor information may, under certain circumstances, be integrated to manipulable object concepts. Moreover, I will provide empirical results suggesting that action is not only an important part of single object concepts, but also contributes to the organization of manipulable object categories. Finally, I will propose a common mechanism for object and action conceptual processing.
