Biography

Prof. Eva Derous

Prof. Eva Derous is a Full Professor in Personnel Psychology/HRM and the head of the Vocational and Personnel Psychology Lab at Ghent University. She earned her master's and Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Leuven University (Belgium), received a Fulbright research grant from the KNAW/Fulbright Center Amsterdam to visit Michigan State University (USA), and worked at Erasmus University in Rotterdam (the Netherlands) before joining Ghent University.

At Ghent University, she teaches HRM, Recent Trends in HRM, and Coaching and Training skills. She also serves as the academic coordinator of the internships in Industrial and Organizational Psychology. 

Prof. Derous’ research and publications cover topics in personnel psychology/HRM, mainly but not exclusively related to recruitment, selection and assessment. She has a specific interest in discrimination/diversity/inclusion at work (ethnicity, age, and gender) and innovative assessment tools. Other research topics include bias in personnel decision-making, problem-based learning, and prevention of burnout.  Eva regularly publishes book chapters and papers in Web of Science-ISI ranked journals such as Personnel Psychology, Journal of Organizational Behavior, Journal of Vocational Psychology, Human Resource Management Review. She has obtained several research grants, both as principal investigator and as co-promotor, and advises several Ph.D.students.

Prof. Derous serves on the editorial boards of international journals, is a member of professional consortia (CESSMIR, UGent@Work, DFNSR, ENESER, SIOP, Fulbright Alumni Association) and is an executive board member of the European Association of Work and Organizational Psychology.  Taking a scientist-practitioner approach, she also serves on advisory boards for (not-for) profit organizations and regularly provides evidence-based advice.
