(04-09-2024)

poster femkeNext week, FWO PhD candidate Femke De Sutter will participate in an insightful series of lectures exploring age discrimination in Belgian cinema. These lectures are part of the event En Cour(t)s de Route: Lang Leve!, a collaborative initiative between Dalton Distribution and L'Agence belge du Court Métrage. This distinctive screening series features short films in both French and Flemish, crossing cultural and linguistic boundaries.

Before the screening of a compilation of four short films, each addressing themes of age and ageing, Femke will introduce her research on the representation and discourses of and on older adults in Belgian cinema. After each film, she will engage with the filmmakers in discussions, examining how age-related issues are depicted and exploring ways to challenge and dismantle age-related prejudices. The evening promises to be both inspiring and thought-provoking, offering a critical examination of cinema's strengths and limitations in portraying age.

Don’t miss this unique opportunity to gain new insights and join an essential conversation about the representations and discourses of age and ageing in film. More information and the full program can be found here.
