Ryan Brandão holds a bachelor’s degree in Social Communication (2013) and a master’s degree in Arts, Culture and Languages (2016), both from Federal University of Juiz de Fora / Brazil. He is currently doing a joint-PhD at Fluminense Federal University / Brazil (under the supervision of Prof. Dr. João Luiz Vieira) and at Ghent University / Belgium (under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Daniel Biltereyst) with the support of the Capes Foundation of the Ministry of Education of Brazil. Member of CPCine: History, Aesthetic and Narratives in Cinema and Audiovisual Research Group (UFJF / CNPq) and Ways of Seeing: Cinemas, Exhibition and Audiences Research Group (ESPM / CNPq). He recently published Histórias de cinemas de rua de Minas Gerais (2021, with Alessandra Brum). His PhD-project examines the foundation of the first movie theaters in Juiz de Fora, a city located in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil.
