Elke Van Damme
Elke Van Damme (PhD) graduated in 2003 as a social assistant at the Arteveldehogeschool (Ghent) and she graduated in 2006 as a master in Communication Sciences. From January 2007 until October 2008, she was connected as a research and teaching assistant to the department of Communication Sciences (Ghent University). In October 2008 she started to work on a research project, funded by the Research Foundation-Flanders (FWO), entitled Soap Skilled Teenagers. An audience research of popular teenage series in the contemporary Flemish media (supervisor: Prof. Dr. D. Biltereyst, co-supervisor: Prof. Dr. S. Van Bauwel) (FWO 2008-2013). In March 2013, she successfully defended her doctoral dissertation "Youth f(r)iction: A multi-method research on the use, representation and consumption of youth's contemporary screen culture".
Since October 2013, she works as a lecturer at LUCA School of Arts (campus Sint-Lukas Brussels) where she teaches the courses Cultural Media Studies 1 and Cultural Media Studies 2. She also supervises master's theses and does research on the representation of gender in audiovisual arts. From October 2015, she became the head of the Audiovisual Arts department (film and animation film) in the Brussels LUCA School of Arts.
