Personalia
Eduard Cuelenaere has earned a joint PhD in Communication Sciences (Ghent University) and in Theatre Studies and Intermediality (University of Antwerp). He has taught several courses at different institutions, mainly on film and audiovisual media, international communication, and adaptation studies. He is also a film scholar who is interested in how the growing phenomenon of recycling content (film remakes, sequels, …) reflects the evolving state of film cultures (e.g., in terms of its diversity) and industries within the realm of (streaming) European cinema. To explore the intricate relationship between the audiovisual industry, society, and culture, he employs an interdisciplinary approach, drawing from film studies, audience studies, cultural studies, and (critical) media industry studies.
He is also film programmer for Film-Plateau (Ghent University’s film club) and co-founder as well as former chief editor of the Ghentian cinephile platform Kinoautomat. Since 2022, Eduard is also associate member of HOLLYWOOD MEMORIES.
