Femke De Sutter obtained a master’s degree in Communication Sciences at Ghent University, specializing in Film and Television Studies (Magna Cum Laude). To further explore her interest in the topics around gender, ageing and diversity, she followed and obtained a second master’s degree in Gender and Diversity (Magna Cum Laude) at Ghent University.
Femke previously worked as a research assistant on the Horizon2020 funded project EUMEPLAT (European Media Platforms). As of November 2022, she is a doctoral candidate of the Research Foundation - Flanders (FWO) and is conducting research at the Centre for Cinema and Media Studies (CIMS) of Ghent University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Daniel Biltereyst and Prof. Dr. Sofie Van Bauwel. Her research project, titled "The Belgian Silvering Screen", aims to critically examine age discrimination in both representations and narratives in Belgian films. Her research aims to map and analyse the representations of older adults. In 2024, Femke received the Frieda Saeys award for outstanding research in Gender an Media studies.
