Sigal Yona is a doctoral researcher at the Department of Communication Sciences and a member of the Centre for Cinema and Media Studies (CIMS). Her PhD-project, supervised by Prof. dr. Daniël Biltereyst, employs a mixed-method approach to study historical film culture in Tel Aviv-Jaffa. Its main focus is on cinemas that screened films from the Middle East, South Asia, and the Balkans between the 1950s and the 1970s and the remembered experience of audiences who have attended them.
Sigal received her BFA and MA degrees from Tel Aviv University, where her Master's thesis focused on the relationship between Hebrew and Arabic in Israeli cinema. She has previously served as Visiting Instructor in Jewish Studies at Vassar College, NY, and taught summer courses at Middlebury College, VT.
