Publication research report Media Councils in the Digital Age: An overview of 9 European media councils’ complaints decisions
(13-09-2024)
Recently a research report by prof. dr. Sarah Van Leuven was published as part of the Media Councils in the Digital Age project. With the help of two research interns at CJS (Warre Van Leirsberghe and Lonnie Renne), she analyzed 333 complaint decisions from nine different European media councils in various media systems. The aim was to get a better understanding of the variation in complaints and the application of journalistic values and ethics by European press councils in a digital era. Truthful reporting appeared to be the primary concern in all regions. Two-thirds of all complaints were related to the principle of accurate and truthful reporting, with 48% of these complaints being upheld by the councils.
