Manon Mortier is a PhD student at the Department of History at Ghent University and is affiliated with the Center for Journalism Studies (CJS) of the Department of Communication Sciences. She obtained an MA in History at Ghent University (2021) and an MA in Journalism at Vrije Universiteit Brussel (2022). 

In November 2023, Manon started her current doctoral research (FWO). Under the supervision of prof. Koen Aerts and prof. Stijn Joye she examines how journalists, historians, and other memory agents (re)construct collective memories about the Belgian colonial and war history in the Belgian public broadcasters VRT and RTBF.

Manon is part of the organizing committee of TAPAS (Thinking About the PASt), an interdisciplinary forum for reflection on various relationships with the past.
