studente met cameraThis specialisation is centred on the role of media culture. Apart from knowledge and analysis of audiovisual production, the analysis of the role that media products play in society is a key concern of the specialisation. Students acquire insight into the functioning of audiovisual media, from a political-economic, cultural and policy perspective.

At the same time, we pay close attention to the (inter)national, historical, socio-economic and cultural aspects of media culture. This programme aims to prepare independent and critical graduates. These graduates are capable of working on an academic master level within sectors that are occupied with the production, distribution and exhibition of film and television products. New Media and Society

studente-11aThe digitisation of media and communication confronts both users and companies with massive societal challenges. It also has far-reaching implications for our information society and innovation economy.

The rapid pace of technological evolutions forces the user to change just as swiftly.
The foundations of traditional business models are being shaken. In today’s world, knowledge of innovation and a user-centred focus are more than ever essential skills. A mastery of business economics as well as political-economic insights are vital to understanding these trends.

The specialisation ‘New Media and Society’ aims to educate social scientists that are prepared to tackle all of these challenges. A close co-operation with companies and stakeholders, makes the ‘NMS’ an academic programme tailored to today’s professional environment.
