International Political Economy

The GIES has a strong research tradition in international and comparative political economy, examining the interaction between economic and political forces in the global and European order.

At the GIES, we explore the long-term implications of economic (de)globalization and a variety of crises (financial crises, climate crisis, gepolitical crisis) for the balance of global economic power and the ever-changing role of Europe in the world economy.

More generally, we are interested in the following (frequently overlapping) themes: (1) the European Union’s trade and industrial policies; (2) the evolution of macroeconomic and macrofinancial regimes; (3) transitions in international tax governance; and (4) the IPE of de-carbonization and the energy transition.

The GIES examines these themes from multiple theoretical perspectives, applying both quantitative and qualitative methods."
