Dr. Petra Debusscher
Petra Debusscher is a researcher at the Ghent Institute for International and European Studies and lecturer in the Master EU Studies and the Master Global Studies. She holds a PhD in EU studies on the topic of Gender Mainstreaming in EU Development Policy which she obtained in 2010 at Ghent University. She has been affiliated as BOF postdoctoral fellow, FWO postdoctoral fellow and guest professor to Ghent University and the University of Antwerp. In addition, she has held visiting research and teaching positions at the University of Copenhagen’s Centre for European Politics and the Radboud University’s Political Science Department. She is editorial board member of the Journal of Diversity and Gender Studies (DiGeSt).
Her research interests include gender in EU policies, EU development and external policy, intersectionality and multiple inequalities. She is currently working on a research project 'The EU as a Global Gender Actor: Tracing Gender and Intersectionality in EU internal and external policies'.
In addition to her academic work, Petra has several years of experience working as an independent gender expert for EU institutions, including the European Commission (REA, DG INTPA, DG JUST, EASME…), the European Parliament’s FEMM Committee, the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) and the European Institute of Innovation & Technology (EIT) among others.
