VAD is an umbrella organization for the large number of associations and leagues active in Flanders in the field of alcohol and other drug problems. VAD is the Dutch acronym for 'Association for Alcohol and other Drug problems'. All studies, prevention work and aid associated with drug, medication and alcohol related abuse is channelled in the right direction by VAD. VAD is acknowledged by the Flemish government and is part of the VIG, which is the Dutch acronym for the Flemish Institute for the Promotion of Health. Anyone in Flanders can appeal to VAD. Be it indirectly via the large number of organisations and field workers or directly throughout the Drugline telephone or the documentation centre. VAD is attempting to expand its radius of action towards schools, youth centres, welfare centres, the workplace etc.

Belgian Information Reitox Network (BIRN)

Het Belgian Information REITOX Network, BIRN, is een Belgisch netwerk van organisaties werkzaam rond drugs en drugverslaving. In dit netwerk wordt het Wetenschappelijk Instituut voor Volksgezondheid (WIV) als nationaal Focal Point bijgestaan door 4 Sub-Focal Points die de gewesten of gemeenschappen vertegenwoordigen. VAD is het Vlaamse Sub-Focal Point. Elke EU-lidstaat heeft zo zijn eigen Focal Point. Alle Focal Points samen vormen het Europese REITOX-netwerk dat druggerelateerde informatie doorspeelt aan het Europees Waarnemingscentrum voor Drugs en Drugverslaving (EWDD).
