Fatima El Kaddouri
Fatima El Kaddouri (11 June 1996, Kortrijk) holds an affiliation to the department of European, Public and International Law at Ghent University. She joined the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation to the EU, NATO and the Kingdom of Belgium in September 2022 as Legal Associate. Her work focuses on the promotion of respect for International Humanitarian Law (IHL). While covering a wide portfolio of topics and engaging in dissemination activities, Fatima concentrates on the field of new technologies such as IHL in the cyber domain and works on the protection of children in armed conflict.
Prior to joining the ICRC, Fatima was a laureate of the 19th promotion of the European Bernheim traineeships (2021-2022). During this period, she contributed to the coordination, development of the Belgian position within the Belgium Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Sept. – Feb.) and the advocacy thereof at the Permanent Representation of Belgium to the EU (Feb. - July). Fatima’s professional career started as an academic staff member at Ghent University’s Department of European, Public and International.
Fatima holds a master’s degree in law (2019, magna cum laude) as well as a master's degree in political science with a specialization in the European Union (2021, summa cum laude) from Ghent University (Belgium). Her master dissertation ‘Two worlds intertwined: politics and law. How do ECJ rulings find their way into EU-legislation?’ was awarded the Marthe Versichelen prize 2020-2021.
