Klaas Willaert

In 2012 Klaas Willaert graduated as Master in Law at Ghent University and he added a Master in Maritime Sciences to his résumé in 2013. His master theses treated the subjects of the accession process of Serbia to the European Union (‘The accession process of Serbia to the European Union: a story of ups and downs’) and piracy in West Africa (‘Piracy in West Africa: the Gulf of Guinea as a new hotspot’).

In September 2013 Klaas started as an assistant at the department Public International Law, where he is preparing a doctoral thesis on piracy under the supervision of Prof. dr. em. Eduard Somers.
