Annelies Nachtergaele
Biography
Annelies Nachtergaele is a practicing Legal Officer at the Agency for Integration and Civic integration (Agentschap voor Integratie en Inburgering) and is since 2020 also teaching assistent at the Human Rights and Migration Law Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Criminology of Ghent University.
She studied Law (2014) in Leuven and Stellenbosch and holds an additional Master in International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights from the Geneva Academy (2016).
She put her education into practice first by completing an internship with the Swiss NGO TRIAL International based in Geneva, followed by an internship at the Regional delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross in Paris. She previously already worked as a teaching assistant at the Institute of European and International law at KU Leuven (2015).
She then practiced during four years as a lawyer specialized in migration and asylum law at the Brussels Bar, where she provided legal support to numerous migrants.
Since 2021 Annelies is working as a legal expert at the Agency for Integration and Civic integration, where she provides legal support and training to local authorities, organisations and newcomers for a correct implementation of immigration law and refugee law.
