In this article Geert Van Hoorick discusses the recent administrative case law regarding the Flemish (and Dutch) nitrogen policy plan. In this case law this plan has been found unlawful due to the absence of an appropriate assessment foreseen in article 6(3) of the Habitats Directive. Geert Van Hoorick also focusses on the environmental backgrounds and solutions for the problem, that could result in a more sustainable agriculture.

In this article Elien Verniers and Geert Van Hoorick discuss the recent case law of the ECJ regarding the Flemish ritual slaughter case. They conclude that the ECJ has balanced the freedom of religion and animal welfare in a right way, and that the ECJ decision is even of general importance since it states that the freedom of religion has to be interpreted in the light of present-day conditions and of the ideas prevailing in democratic states today.
