Eric Lancksweerdt

Short Bio

Eric Lancksweerdt was a magistrate at the Belgian Council of State for almost 25 years. In those years he built up a vast experience in environmental (and other) matters. He became first auditor head of department in February 2013.

In 2009, Eric defended his PhD about citizen participation at the local government level at Antwerp University.

In September 2014 Eric left the Council of State to become a part-time assistant professor (50%) at Hasselt University. His research and teaching relate to negotiation and mediation as well as alternative dispute resolution (ADR). He is also responsible for the learning line on negotiation and mediation throughout the entire law programme (bachelor and master). Eric also teaches a course on ethics in law practice for the master students.

Since September 2020, Eric is also an assistant professor at Ghent University (40%), where he is responsible for the courses “negotiation and mediation” and “mediation (integration seminar)”. Eric took various courses in the field of mediation. He is a recognized mediator with a special focus on mediation in administrative matters. Eric gave many lectures, workshops and training courses on alternative conflict resolution both in Belgium and abroad (Bautzen, Riga, Maputo).
Eric publishes, among other things, about fundamental innovations in law and legal practice, ethics and law practice, citizen participation, and conflict prevention and ADR.
