Short Bio

Wannes Vandenbussche
Wannes Vandenbussche is assistant research professor of civil procedure (BOF ZAP, tenure track).

He is also an attorney-at-law at the Brussels bar and an accredited mediator in civil and commercial matters.

Wannes is a law graduate and Doctor of Laws (PhD) of KU Leuven. In the past, he was amongst others visiting researcher at Yale University, the Max Planck Institute for Procedural Law in Luxembourg and the University of Utrecht.

Wannes' research relates to the future of dispute resolution because he strives for a civil justice system where litigants can find a workable and efficient solution where needed. To that end, courts have to balance on different fields of tension: the active role of the judge versus the responsibility of the parties, procedural economy versus the sense of justice of litigants, the traditional court model versus other forms of dispute resolution, automated solutions for routine decisions versus the necessary human control and intervention.
