(30-11-2024) Ghent University undertook a successful rectoral mission to São Paulo and Río de Janeiro, in parallel to the Belgian economic mission led by HRH Princess Astrid. GIPLI sent a representative and came back with concrete plans for new synergies.
Last week, GIPLI professor Simon Geiregat joined the Ghent University rectoral mission in Brazil. Actively taking part in the mission as a representative of the Faculty of Law and Criminology at the side of colleague Georges Martyn and rector Rik Van de Walle, he had various meetings with universities and other top institutions with international standing and expertise in intellectual property law (among many other disciplines).
Among the universities visited, the University of São Paulo (USP), Mackenzie Presbyterian University and the Federal University of Río de Janeiro (UFRJ) seemed very keen on exploring more collaboration with GIPLI and other departments of the Ghent University Faculty of Law and Criminology. Likewise, the Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV) indicated interest in more collaboration.
During the mission, the UGent team was also received in a heart-warming (and belly-filling) manner by the renown Institute of Technology and Society (ITS) in Río de Janeiro. Concrete ideas for joint projects were discussed and are likely to be further concretized in the months to come.
On behalf of GIPLI and the Faculty of Law and Criminology, professor Geiregat would like to express his sincere gratitude to all the kind colleagues that received the mission team on their mission. Obrigado!
