Willem-Jan Cosemans
Willem-Jan Cosemans has been a part-time teaching assistant and an attorney-at-law with the Brussels bar since September 2010. He holds a Master’s in Law from KU Leuven (2008), an Advanced Master in IP & IT Law from KU Leuven (2009), an LLM in European Law from Ghent University (2010) and a Master in Management from KU Leuven (2011).
Since the beginning of his career, Willem-Jan has had a focus on intellectual property rights, media and technology law. His work covers a broad range of aspects of these disciplines of the law, including strategic advice, prosecution, transactional work and IP-portfolio management.
In addition, Willem-Jan has a wide experience on overall IP contentious matters and has represented clients before national and European Courts in copyrights, trade mark and design litigation, including trade mark oppositions and cancellation actions at the Benelux, European (EUIPO and the General Court of the EU), and international level (WIPO).
He has a particular experience in acting for clients in the media (film, TV, music, and publishing), and sports industry as well as for clients in the retail, fashion, automotive, IT, public, pharmaceutical and consumer goods sectors. Willem-Jan has published several articles and has given numerous presentations on IP & IT related topics.
Finally, he has a wide experience in drafting various technology related agreements as well as in advising clients in relation with data protection matters. At GIPLI and the Ghent University Faculty of Law and Criminology, he teaches and assists in educational tasks like the supervision and co-supervision of bachelor’s and master’s theses.
