Thijs Vancoppernolle
Thijs Vancoppernolle is a part-time visiting professor of private international law. He teaches Advanced Private International Law and he supervises the Pax Moot Court Private International Law.
Thijs studied law at the KU Leuven (Kortrijk and Leuven) and at the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (Erasmus exchange). From 2013 to 2018, he worked at the Centre for Methodology of Law at the KU Leuven (first as an assistant and later as a fellow of the Research Foundation Flanders – FWO), where he wrote a doctoral thesis on intertemporal conflicts of laws. During this time, he completed several research stays, including at the Institut für ausländisches und internationales Privat- und Wirtschaftsrecht in Heidelberg. He defended his doctoral thesis on 21 December 2018.
In addition to his work at the Institute for Private International Law, Thijs works as a lawyer at the Brussels Bar, focusing i.a. on cross-border dispute resolution and international arbitration.
