In the article, we dive into the origins of vapour-phase deposition methods, in casu ALD, to atomically tailor heterogeneous catalysts. We highlight a seminar paper which elegantly demonstrates the base principles of ALD to fabricate catalysts, established in an industrial context. In addition, a future vision is provided where we propose possible directions and opportunities in the field to enhance the level of control during catalyst fabrication. Ultimately, we dream of building catalysts from scratch.
