Agrotopia Endowed Chair

The Ghent University Agrotopia endowed chair presents an inspiring framework to stimulate and realize innovative concepts in greenhouse technology and vertical and urban horticulture.

The endowed chair delivers a multidisciplinary platform which brings together expertise in:

• greenhouse construction
• Light
• climate control
• sensors and modelling
• plant physiology
• plant diseases
• microbial ecology and technology

Our goal is to further develop profitable and sustainable urban horticulture using novel bio engineering tools.

Accomplishments

So far the chair has realized:

• Cross talk project
• Funding for specialized lighting for plants
• Interview with researchers Emmy Dhooghe and Kathy Steppe on the future of vertical farming and its integration in modern horticulture. (In Dutch)

Inagro’s rooftop greenhouse, Agrotopia, a living lab at the site of the Agricultural Auction Market REO in Roeselare serves as a unique platform to the UGent-Agrotopia endowed chair for research, demonstration and communication.
