Education

The staff of the laboratory is involved in courses on fluid mechanics, open channel hydraulics, river hydro- and morphodynamics, navigable waterways, hydraulic structures (navigation locks, weirs, erosion protection, energy dissipation, ...), water management and environment, applications of fluid mechanics in fire safety engineering.

In addition to this, the staff also supports both master thesis as well as PhD thesis research.

The first picture below shows a construction for a dissipation basin for a navigation lock, designed by students during a course. The designed basins were tested in a scale model. The other pictures show the results of a master thesis, modeling a labyrinth weir integrated in a culvert: the architectural model, the scale model tested and the scale model in operation.
