Short CV
Bert obtained his Master's degree in Industrial Design at the University of Ghent. During and alongside his studies, he has taken on many design challenges. In 2017, he was selected for an engineering internship at Huawei's global headquarters in Shenzhen, P.R.China. Bert also participated in the annual Samsung Innovation Challenge, in collaboration with MICT. As a finalist, he presented his vision for a change in design strategy to improve Samsung's brand experience. During his Master of Science, his thesis explored the possibility of valorising fruit and vegetable waste streams into a full product that is more environmentally friendly than the alternatives. His thesis eventually won the OVAM Eco-Design student prize in 2019. After graduating, Bert got the chance to do a PhD on a BOF-funded project, but already signed a contract to work at an international cookware company (Allinox bvba), where he would work as a product development engineer for a year. At Allinox, among other projects, he was responsible for their very first patent-pending product-system design. In 2020, Bert got the chance to do his PhD and at the same time work as an assistant on projects and help teach courses in Industrial Design Engineering Technology at the Campus Kortrijk of Ghent University. In this assistantship, he will do research aimed at obtaining a PhD, investigating the possibilities that circular and bio-based materials bring to the design profession.
