The seminar will examine contemporary research and practices in legal history, jurisprudence, and international human rights law.

On June 5, 2024, the Ghent Institute of Legal History will host a seminar featuring Professor Cosmin Cercel (Ghent University) and Professor Raul Cârstocea (University of Maynooth) as part of the Meet the Expert Doctoral School Co-Funded Activities.

Professor Raul Cârstocea, an Assistant Professor in Twentieth-Century European History, has extensive research experience, including a PhD from University College London.

Dr. Cârstocea is a leading expert in the comparative study of fascism and the interwar era. His research focuses on state formation and nation-building processes in 19th and 20th century Europe and their consequences for minority groups. As an expert for the Council of Europe at the Observatory on History Teaching in Europe, he provides insights into how history shapes our understanding of the state's role, bridging history and legal studies.
