Did you know that we no longer offer warm meals with beef?

Since September 2023, you will no longer find hot dishes with beef in our restaurants.

By replacing beef with pork and vegetables, we have reduced our greenhouse gas emissions and land use by 85% for these dishes. From 50 kg of CO2 for beef from meat cattle to 7.5 kg of CO2 for pork per 100 grams. In this first semester, we have thus emitted 1,300 tons less CO2 by replacing beef with pork.

More information about the emissions of many plant and animal proteins can be found in this chart. These are average values per 100 grams of protein. Please note that the last sentence refers to a chart that provides additional details on emissions, which can be found on the website of the Department of Environment.

Did you know that we have replaced 30% of the meat in the spaghetti sauce with vegetables?

Not only was beef replaced by pork, but on top of that, we have replaced 30% of the meat with vegetables.

UGent has endorsed the Green Deal Protein Shift. Currently, the average Belgian obtains 60% of their protein from animal sources (such as meat, fish, and eggs) and 40% from plant-based sources (such as bread, rice, and pasta). By 2030, the Flemish government aims to reverse this ratio to reduce the adverse impact of excessive meat consumption on the climate.

Did you know that you can bring your own reusable soup cup or thermos?

Last academic year, nearly 40% of soups were purchased in disposable soup cups!

This means that more than 120,000 cardboard disposable soup cups ended up in the residual waste! Moreover, this means that more than €60,000 was spent on these disposable cups.

That’s double the waste!

A heartfelt call to purchase a reusable soup cup (€2.50) once or to bring your own soup cup or thermos.

A small effort, a world of difference. 😊
