The Marie Skłodowska-Curie actions (MSCA) aim to enhance the career development and training of researchers through international and intersectoral mobility.

    Already working at Ghent University?

    • If you haven't been in Belgium for more than 12 months in the last 3 years prior to the submission deadline of the MSCA-PF call, you are still eligible to apply with a Belgian Host Institution.
    • If you have been here longer than 12 months, you can apply for:
      • a Global Fellowship with Ghent University as Host Institution;
      • a Global Fellowship with an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country as Host Institution;
      • a European Fellowship with an organisation based in other Europe Member States or Associated Countries.

      Information for supervisors

      Types of fellowships

      European Fellowships

      • They are open to researchers moving within Europe or coming to Europe from another part of the world to pursue their research career.
      • These fellowships take place in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country.
      • Fellowships can last between 1 and 2 years.
      • Researchers of any nationality can apply.

      Global Fellowships

      • They fund the mobility of researchers outside Europe.
      • The fellowship lasts between 2 to 3 years, of which the first 1 to 2 years will be spent in a non-associated Third Country, followed by a mandatory return phase of 1 year to an organisation based in an EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country.
      • Only nationals or long-term residents of the EU Member States or Horizon Europe Associated Countries can apply.

      • Applications with the support of a Ghent University supervisor, need to be sent in by April 2025 (exact deadline date will be added here in February 2025).

      NCP Webinar on MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowships

      The National Contact Points (NCPs) for MSCA in Belgium (NCP Federal BE, NCP-FNRS, NCP Flanders) annually organize a virtual info session on Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellowships, to inform potential applicants and host institutions from both the academic and non-academic sector (including industry, business and SMEs, …).

      Content of the webinar

      • The objectives of Postdoctoral Fellowships, call modalities and hands-on information on the application submission and evaluation process 
      • Testimonials from a laureate and an expert evaluator
      • The content of this webinar will be very similar to Module 1 of our Master Class. However, if you are not yet familiar with this funding scheme, both sessions might be complementary.

      • Participation to this webinar is free and open to any researcher in any career stage wishing to apply with a Belgian host institution or any staff member of a Belgian host institution (both from the academic and non-academic sector).
      • Registration is mandatory.

      MSCA.pngEligibility for an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship

      • Open to all postdoctoral researchers of any nationality who have obtained their PhD maximally 8 years before the deadline date, extensions are possible.
      • Applicants must have a doctoral degree by the time of the call deadline.
      • All research areas can be funded. Find a research group at Ghent University, which you would like to join, in our Research Directory.
      • The proposal is written jointly with the host organisation (i.e. a supervisor who is a professor at Ghent University).
      • Mobility is key! Check the mobility rule in the MSCA Work Programme.
      • Contact the EU-team to get help to assess your eligibility on a personal basis.

      Funding

      • The grant provides an allowance to cover living, travel and family costs.
      • In addition, the EU contributes to the training, networking and research costs of the fellow, as well as to the management and indirect costs of the project.
      • The grant is awarded to the host organisation.

      Timeline

      • This annual call usually opens in April / May and closes with a submission deadline in September
      • Please notify the EU team at your earliest convenience for support and feedback.
      • Internal Ghent University deadline for notification of new submissions: two weeks before the submission deadline. Please note the services of the EU Team will then be limited to a quick eligibility check.

      Our EU team will guide you throughout the administrative and practical requirements. We are your first point of contact for any question you may have from the moment you start to work on your proposal until the final report of the project, e.g. eligibility, tips and tricks for your proposal. The EU team also offers feedback on your proposal on a first-come, first-served basis.

      If you are selected, we will support you with all administrative, legal and financial issues during the entire project.
