Secondary employment activities academic staff

Secondary employment activities are the political mandates, the professional, paid and unpaid activities carried out in addition to the assignment at the university. Every academic staff member with at least a part-time assignment must provide Ghent University with an overview of these secondary employment activities.

Every year, at the start of the academic year, the Department of Personnel and Organization conducts a survey on secondary employment activities among academic staff with at least a half-time assignment. The addressed members of the academic staff are asked to report any secondary employment activities that they wish to perform in the next academic year.

  • If you do not have secondary employment activities, you don’t have to report anything nor fill out the application form.
  • If you carry out the same secondary employment activities as last year, we ask you to confirm these activities in the application.
  • “If there is a substantial change in the content or scope of an approved secondary employment activity or if you carry out a new secondary employment activity, we ask you to submit a (new) request. Please go to the SAP MijnApps portal and then select the tile: 'Secondary Employment Activities Request'. You can find the manual by clicking the book icon at the top right of the screen, or click the direct link here.

You must notify the university or submit a request for a modification if there is a substantial change in the content or scope or if you wish to add a new secondary employment activity during the academic year.
