X-ray fluorescence
X-ray Fluorescence or XRF in short, is a non-destructive analytical technique. In XRF analysis, a sample is exposed to X-rays, which causes the atoms in the sample to emit characteristic X-ray fluorescence.
By measuring the energy and intensity of these emitted X-rays, the elemental composition of the material can be identified and quantified.
XRF is widely used in various fields, including archaeology, geology, environmental science, and industry, for elemental analysis of metals, minerals, soils, and other materials.
Ghent University offers a wide range of XRF instruments ranging from hand-held XRF to advanced, high resolution 2D and 3D XRF.
