X-ray microtomography
X-ray microtomography (micro-CT) is a non-destructive imaging technique that utilizes X-rays to create 3D micrometer-scale images of the internal structure of objects. Micro-CT can be used on a of a wide range of materials including raw materials, porous materials, composites, metals, polymers, pharmaceuticals and biological specimens.
Deliverables from micro-CT include:
- 3D visualization of the internal structure (stills and animated videos)
- Phase quantification (e.g. porosity, size/shape analysis)
- Quality Assurance/Control
- Digital-twin creation (STL-creation)
With the Center for X-ray Tomography (UGCT), Ghent university offers state of the art instruments for micro-CT including high resolution systems (down to 0.4µm/voxel resolution) and fast 4D imaging of dynamic processes (12s/3D image) such as fluid-flow and mechanical testing.
