Center of Expertise
NB-Photonics makes its photonics-related world-class infrastructure and comprehensive expertise accessible to researchers both from academia and industry via its Center of Expertise. The expertise center coordinates the access to its members' facilities and provides scientific support in photonics-related technologies.
Infrastructure
Research facilities and infrastructure of 10 research groups are clustered within the expertise center. Major facilities and infrastructure that will be accessible via the center are listed below. For further information you can refer to this document.
Measurement, characterization and screening
Optical spectroscopy
- Spectrophotometer (175-3300 nm)
- Fourier transform infrared (FTIR)/Raman spectroscopy/micro-Raman system
- Ultrafast absorption spectroscopy
- Set-up for thermoluminescence (TL) spectroscopic measurements with variable wavelength and low temperature excitation
- Pump-probe spectroscopy
- Single photon spectroscopy
- Spectroscopic ellipsometry
Measurement capabilities for photonic materials, devices and systems
- A variety of set-ups to characterize photonic devices, from the visible to the mid-infrared
- Photoluminescence decay measurements with time resolution of approximately 10 ns
- Current-Voltage-Temperature measurements (from 1900C - 1300C)
- Set-up for absolute external and internal Quantum Efficiency (QE) measurements of luminescent materials and quantum dots
- Equipment, software and expertise for colour measurements and calculations of light sources and surfaces (CCT, CRI, CQS, TM-30-15, Duv, (x,y), LER)
- Absolute surface luminance measurements both in photopic and scotopic regime
- Electronic measurements of photonic systems up to 67 GHz in the time and frequency domain
- Bit error rate testing of photonic systems up to 50 Gb/s
- Arbitrary waveform generation for photonic systems uo to 65 Gb/s

- Atomic force microscope
- Interfacial force microscop (IFM) scanning probe
- Scanning electron microscope (SEM) with elemental analysis (EDX), spectroscopy cathodoluminescence (CL) detection and temperature stage
- Field emission gun (FEG) environmental SEM
