Homes and Residences

Ghent University lets over 2,.200 furnished living units to the entire university community.

Only if you have an affiliation with Ghent University, a living unit can be assigned. 

As demand exceeds supply, priority rules and delineated lease terms are defined for the different types of accommodation.

We offer accommodation to degree-seeking students (local and international courses), exchange students, Ph.D. students, staff and visitors.

Determined by your type of enrolment, you can apply for a certain range of living units, regardless of your nationality or other specifications. 

The rental price depends on your type of enrolment, the duration of your stay and the type of living unit.

To apply for housing, you first have to follow the appropriate Ghent University enrolment procedure: after the completion of your digital pre-enrolment, you register for accommodation using the same procedure.

Our housing units are reserved for certain categories of applicants. Depending on your affiliation, the duration ànd your application in OASIS, you will only find the contingents of living units available to you.

For exchange & enrolment (admission) programs, we make a distinction between stays for a full semester and stays for a full academic year stays (12 months, September till September).
For PhD, staff, visitors, ITP & a number of exchange programs (agreed by both home university and UGent) short term stays (half a month up to 6 months) are available.

        Other options

        If staying in the University Halls of Residence is not your ‘cup of tea’, if you are not eligible, or if they are fully booked, you can look for a suitable living unit on the private rented market.
        The search for a comfortable and safe living unit on the private rented market is quite challenging and will take time and effort. Especially if you are looking for a room for the first semester. In the second semester, the housing market is much more relaxed and there are much more options. But we are happy to provide you with tips and tricks to make your search as comfortable as possible.

        In case a living unit would become available due to a cancelation, it will be assigned to the next person on our waiting list.
