The CRIG (Cancer Research Institute Ghent) Fund
In Belgium, one in three men, and one in four women will be diagnosed with cancer before their 75th birthday. Thanks to the progress in academic research, treatment for these patients is constantly improving. However, cancer researchers still face great challenges in their search for better and more targeted means of treatment.
Collaboration is crucial to this search. The CRIG brings together over 500 researchers from Ghent, ranging from doctors to biotechnologists, to pharmacists and engineers, so that research can be conducted faster and more efficiently.
Want to make a donation to the CRIG fund?
Your donation to CRIG will help support much-needed research into new and better treatments for cancer. This will help CRIG support ‘bottleneck research’ conducted by young researchers who would not otherwise easily find funding as they have not yet ‘proved’ themselves, or due to the innovative nature of their research proposal. By awarding grants, CRIG gives them the chance to start up innovative and promising projects that can truly make a difference.
50 gifts of €200 enable CRIG to start up a completely new research project.
We gratefully welcome donations to CRIG – you can also donate via bank transfer to the account number BE26 3900 9658 0329, including the message "CRIG". Your gift is tax deductible starting from €40 per year.
“Through the support of CRIG we were able to develop and test new technology in order to detect cancers better and faster. Thanks to these initial results we were able to convince other partners to invest together to bring our technology into clinics.”
– Bram De Wilde, cancer researcher affiliated with CRIG
How your gift can make a difference:
- Read about how gifts to CRIG make research into childhood cancer possible.
- Watch the clip to learn about the story of Dries, himself a former patient who also conducted research into childhood cancer.

Background information
The ‘Cancer Research Institute Ghent’, or CRIG for short, was set up in 2016 to support and encourage collaboration between cancer researchers from Ghent University, Ghent University Hospital, and the VIB life sciences research institute. Over 450 researchers and experts are busy working here every day, each from the perspective of their own discipline: from doctors and pharmacists to biotechnologists and engineers. CRIG wants to build bridges between researchers and foster collaboration so that we can conduct research faster and more efficiently.
Aim
In real terms, CRIG works to stimulate the sharing of knowledge and technology, with as much collaboration as possible between the lab, the clinic, and businesses in order for new knowledge to translate into better treatments for patients. CRIG invests in promising research projects and also organises teaching and conferences for cancer researchers. Finally, CRIG also works together with different foundations and organisations and communicates about research with the general public. Because together we are strong.
